Introduction to Yoga is the first course in a series of 3 closed courses tailored to beginners and those that want to get a good introduction to the basis of yoga. Throughout the course, we'll create a comfortable environment to gradually explore and discover what yoga truly is and why we practice it. We’ll provide you with an understanding of the main terms and practices used in yoga classes, including breath awareness, movement practices and relaxation techniques. Furthermore the course will provide an introduction to the different styles of yoga, leaving you feeling confident attending open yoga classes and starting your regular yoga practice. Each class will include a movement practice, stress relieving practices and a bit of theory. Come experience the benefits of yoga firsthand!
For the duration of the course you will have free access to all open classes at Reykjavík Yoga. Students will be supported with additional material online between classes; like videos and information sheets. The classes can be attended in person or online through Zoom and recordings will be available after each class.

More about the course
>During the course we’ll work towards answering questions such as “What is Yoga?” and “What makes Yoga, Yoga?”, explore the reason behind why we practice Yoga and feeling the benefits of a Yoga practice firsthand.
>Touching on different mindfulness and breathing practices, you will gain tools that can be used in and outside the Yoga class.
>A few of the basic Yoga poses will be introduced (e.g. Sun Salutation (Surya Namaskar)) as well as different styles of Yoga, including Hatha Yoga, Vinyasa, Yin, Restorative Yoga and Yoga Nidra.
